Event Description:
Winona State University’s CLASP Lecture Series will host “Mapping in the Modern Age: How Interactive Digital Maps are Revolutionizing the Way We View Things” with Dylan Blumentritt at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 29 in Stark Hall auditorium, room 103. 

This presentation will explore the brief history of geographic information systems, followed by some examples their uses, including public domain programs such as Google Earth, and in research and education. 

Blumentritt, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of Geoscience at WSU. His research includes the study of Earth’s surface that the forces that shape it, including large-scale landscape alterations by humans. He has published several peer-reviewed articles, primarily on human-landscape alterations in southern Minnesota and how these changes impact natural systems. 

CLASP is the Consortium of Liberal Arts and Science Promotion. The CLASP lecture series was initiated in 2004 and is intended to promote interdisciplinary discussion and exchange.

The 2016-17 University Theme, Our Digital Humanity, examines human life in the digital age, exploring the impact digital tools have on individuals, institutions, systems, societies, our interconnected world, and implications for our collective future. Our Digital Humanity seeks to explore how digital tools have changed the way WSU faculty, staff and students research, create, communicate, relate, learn and teach.
