Miller Brother Lecture Series - Prasad Potluri
Start Date: 10/12/2017Start Time: 3:15 PM
End Date: 10/12/2017

Event Description:
Miller Brothers School of Engineering is sponsoring a lecture from Prasad Potluri The University of Manchester – England On 3D Fibre Architectures for Low-Cost Damage Tolerant Composite Structures.

Advanced carbon and glass fibre composites are used in civil and military airframes, passenger cars, wind turbines
and many other application areas for light-weighting as well as improved fatigue and corrosion performance.
Traditional composites manufacturing methods are ideally suited to thin shell structures such as aircraft wing skins.
This presentation covers advanced robotic fibre placement techniques for creating 3D fibre architectures with
complex local fibre orientations and interlacements and 3D component geometry. Combination of robotics, 3D
weaving, braiding and stitching technologies deliver the required fibre architecture. Through thickness fibres in 3D
fibre architectures are also responsible for improved damage tolerance.
